Transport and Travel

The way we travel can have a significant affect on climate change.

Find our how you can change your habits to have an impact.

The way we travel and the transport we choose to use are two of the main contributors to climate change because traditional vehicles that use petrol or diesel fuel produce greenhouse gases. In Swale, CO2 emissions from the transport sector have risen by 6% since 2014.

By changing our travel habits, or even the vehicles we use, we can help reduce our impact on the environment. Currently only 24% of commuter journeys are made by public transport, walking or cycling – this needs to increase to at least 40% by 2030.

As well as walking and cycling improvements across the borough, we’re working with local schools to develop travel plans and Council staff to help reduce unnecessary travel and promote working from home.
