Swale Green Schools Forum

The Swale Green Schools’ Forum provides an opportunity for schools to learn more about what they could be doing to reduce their carbon footprint, while sharing ideas teacher-to-teacher.

The Forum meetings are held quarterly – please sign your school up here, or email climate@swale.gov.uk if you have something you would like to discuss.

Resources and Projects:

• Swale Sisters - as part of our sustainable periods project, we are looking to deliver presentations to secondary school students in collaboration with Hey Girls UK. Email climate@swale.gov.uk to request a presentation.
• Clean Air for Schools - this project works with primary schools to raise awareness of air quality issues, sharing resources and videos, running competitions and more. Email ClareLydon@swale.gov.uk for more information
• Pollution Patrol - KentAir's innovative and fun digital learning resource and immersive 3D experience. This website and supporting resources will help you understand more about air pollution and its effects on your health and the environment. Supported by Mid-Kent Environmental Health - please email ClareLydon@swale.gov.uk to discuss further.
• Whole Systems Approach towards a Healthy Kent - this KCC project aligns efforts on childhood health and the environment, and creates a single plan with system-wide ownership and responsibilities. The benefits of this include positive actions towards food and the built environment, healthier and more productive communities and reducing the demand for social care. Schools are encouraged to promote more physical activity, including implementing green/active travel plans, providing suitable space for cycle storage, walking school buses etc. Please email abimbola.ojo@kent.gov.uk to find out more.
• School Bike Libraries -  The Swale Cycle-Recycle projects sees unwanted bikes from across Swale to  HMP Swaleside where inmates fx them as they work towards their qualifications.  These are then sold for £10 a bike, which is purely to ensure the projects sustainability. Swale Borough Council is keen to help set up Bike Libraries in local secondary schools, for use by both staff and students.  If you would be interested in this, or would like help setting one up, please email samuelbrookfield@swale.gov.uk
• School Travel Plans -  School Travel Plans are important in ensuring your staff and students can learn in a safe, and healthy environment.
• Workplace Charging Scheme - The UK government has expanded on the WCS, allowing  stated-funded schools and educational institutions through from nurseries to colleges to access voucher based funding of up to 75% of the costs of the purchasing and installation of Electric Vehicle Chargepoints.  This is up to a maximum of 40  sockets across the site, and up to  £2500 per socket.
