Electric Vehicles and chargepoint installation grants

Swale Low-Emission Car Club

In March 2022, Swale Borough Council launched a three year trial of a local car club in Faversham and Sittingbourne, helping people to get convenient access to cleaner, affordable travel.

For as little as  £3 an hour, HiyaCar will provide low-emission vehicles on their  pay-as-you-go system  via an online booking system where users can sign up for free.

Visit our Swale Car Club page to find out more.

Ultra-Low Emission Vehicles

From 2030, new cars and vans powered wholly by petrol and diesel will not be sold in the UK and by 2035 all new cars and vans will be required to emit zero carbon emissions from the tailpipe.

Swale Borough Council has already began supporting the transition to Electric Vehicles by installing electric charge points across council owned car parks, and many businesses have also installed their own charge points.  Many public chargers can be found using Zapmap, which can be downloaded on your phone or viewed on the web.

An electric vehicle charge point grant can help you to install a charge point at your property, whether that is your home or your school.

Grants

Electric Vehicle Charge Point grant for renters or flat owners allows you £350, or up to 75% of the total cost of installation, whichever is the lower cost.

The Electric Vehicle ChargePoint and infrastructure grants for landlords means you can get two grants. The EV Chargepoint grant gives you £350, or 75% towards the cost of installing an electric vehicle Chargepoint socket, whichever amount is lower.  The EV infrastructure grant, gives you money towards the cost of wider building and installation work required if you are installing multiple chargepoints. For this, you can get up to  £30,000 or 75% off the cost of the work. You can get up to 30 infrastructure grants each financial year, although each one must be used for a different property.

The workplace charging scheme provides support towards the cost of  the purchase, installation and infrastructure  of electric vehicle chargepoints at eligible places of work. The scheme can cover up to 75% of the total costs of the purchase and installation of up to 40 chargepoints to a maximum of:

  • £350 per socket
  • 40 sockets across all sites per applicant
  • The scheme is open to businesses, charities, public sector organisations and small accommodation businesses.
